On the Spur of the Moment

Es geht doch nichts über spontane Trips. Am Montag fragte meine liebe Freundin Meike: "Fährst du  am Freitag mit mir an den Lago Maggiore?" Ich schaute kurz in meinen Kalender, nichts sprach dagegen. Also lautete meine Antwort: "Klar!" Am Mittwoch buchten wir Zugtickets nach Stresa und zwei Tage später ging es dann auch schon los. Richtung Süden. Im Zug sitzend, fiel mir mal wieder auf, dass dies mein liebstes Reiseverkehrsmittel ist. Während der Fahrt lasen wir oder schauten aus dem Fenster. Menschen stiegen ein, Menschen stiegen aus und es gab jede Menge zu sehen und zu hören. Der kleine Junge schräg gegenüber beklagte sich, dass bisher nur hässliche Mädchen auf ihn stehen und der gestriegelte Mann im Anzug, der in Bern zustieg und neben mir sein MacBook aufklappte, arbeitete an einer Präsentation über E-Recruiting.

Als wir schließlich in unserer Unterkunft in Verbania ankamen, war ich zunächst sprachlos. Wir wohnten in einer wunderschönen Villa, (Bilder 3-7) mit einem riesigen Anwesen, und obendrein hatten wir unser Domizil die meiste Zeit für uns allein. Von unserem Fenster aus genossen wir einen grandiosen Blick auf den See, um den schneebedeckte Berge eine traumhafte Kulisse bildeten. There's nothing like a spontaneous trip. On Monday my dear friend Meike asked me: "How about going to Lago Maggiore next Friday?" I checked my calendar. There was nothing to be said against it, so I answered: "Sure!" On Wednesday we booked train tickets to Stresa and two days after we headed southwards. Sitting in the train, once again I realized that it´s really my favorite means of travel. During the ride we got the time to read and watch the landscape passing by the window. People got on, people got off the train and there was so much to see and hear. The boy sitting on the other side of the aisle complained that only ugly girls were into him so far and the posh guy wearing a suit, who got on the train in Bern, opened his MacBook and worked on a presentation about E-Recruiting.

When we finally arrived at our domicile in Verbania I got speechless for a while. We lived in a beautiful villa (pictures 3-7) with an astonishing estate and on top of that we had the residence all for ourselves, most of the time. Our window gave an amazing view over the lake and the snow-capped mountains formed a breathtaking setting. At this point,  thanks a lot to Karin and Bernd for inviting me!

Lovely Locations: Plaa's Thansadet Resort

Mit einer fantastischen Aussicht über Meer und National Park, liegt das Plaa's Thansadet Resort hoch auf den Klippen. Der familiäre Betrieb sorgte für eine wunderbar herzliche und entspannte Atmosphäre. Und auch wenn das massige Hausschwein, das als Resteverwerter des zugehörigen Restaurants dient, uns beim ersten, unvorbereiteten Zusammentreffen zunächst einen ziemlichen Schrecken eingejagt hatte, gewöhnten wir uns sehr schnell an dessen behagliches Grunzen, sobald wir an ihm vorbeigingen. Alles in allem, ein traumhafter Ort, fern vom Massentourismus.

Having a fantastic view over the ocean and the national parc, Plaa'sThansadet Resort is located high on the cliffs. The family business guarantees a sincere and laid-back atmosphere. Even if the massive pig, acting as the restaurant’s disposal, scared us somewhat when we first unexpectedly met it. We quickly got used to its snug grunting when we passed by. After all, Plaa's Thansadet Resort is a gorgeous place faraway from mass tourism.
